Dear President Lion Randy,

I'd like to thank you and your fellow Lions of Citrus Heights for the invitation to dinner last night.  It was an honor to share the information about the Senior Connection with your organization.

I was very moved by the presentation of the electric wheelchair to your visiting guest.  That was a wonderful moment.

As promised, I've mailed a copy of our caregiver's resource guide for your clubhouse.  I hope it will be helpful to your members.  Thank you again for such an enjoyable evening.

You Lions are very special people!

Due to the length of the letter from the principal of Sylvan Middle School I have taken only the basics of the letter to print here.

Dear Citrus Heights Lions Club,

I wanted to follow up with you on the success we had with your Lions Education  Foundation Grant to Sylvan Middle School this year.  As you know, this year we spent a great deal of energy, time and money encouraging our students to read and I'm proud to say that the results were impressive.

I am committed to improving our site and the quality of students and Citrus Heights citizens we produce and I am so thankful that your club has been a contributor to our success.  As you prepare your nominations for the 2007-2008 Lions Education Foundation Grants, I would very much appreciate you considering my school again.  We have decided to continue with our focus on reading this year.  We are convinced that as we continue to update our library collection and incentivize kids to read, the short-term results at our school and the long-term results for society are very positive.  If you have any questions, or would like me to come speak to your members, please let me know.

Sincerely,
Jim Shoemake

From: David LaRiviere
To: Citrus Heights Lions

Thank you for your efforts on my behalf and also behalf of other visually impaired who have been assisted by the Citrus Heights Lions Club!  With the first surgery, in July, I was able to see well enough to read the many books which I've saved during the years which I've been unable to read them.  With the second surgery, done this September, I was able to use both eyes to see almost everything.

I have also begun to look for work and have informed Social Security of my now being sighted.  I believe that I will again be able to drive.  I still have an inability to read with both eyes simultaneously.  I never-the-less consider myself very fortunate to have both eyes corrected to near normal vision by Dr. Jones, thanks to the generosity of the Citrus Heights Lions Club.

Best Regards,
David La Riviere

A woman by the name of Betty Christman came to the Citrus Heights Lions requesting glasses to help people in Thailand.  Betty along with a group of others were trying to collect eyeglasses when she was introduced to the Lions.  Betty does missionary work to help orphaned kids and others who are very poor. The Citrus Heights Lions Club Vision Chair directed her to Lion Bob Schmitz who heads the Folsom Project for the Visually Impaired.  The glasses that are handled at Folsom Prison are cleaned and tagged with the prescription number for each lense.  Bob was kind enough to give Betty 2,000 pairs of glasses to take to Thailand.  This is what Betty wrote to the club.

From Betty Christman

Dear Citrus Heights Lions,

We can't thank you enough for introducing us to Bob Schmitz and the eyeglass program at the prison. If we do not take the glasses we get in, besides the 2,000 we will be taking to Thailand, we'll see that your Lions Club gets them and then you could give them to the prison for processing.

Many people in Thailand will be helped because of your concern.

The Lord Bless you,
Betty Christman

Wilderness Camp for Deaf Children, Inc.

Dear Lion President,

The members of the Board of Directors, District Chairs, and Wilderness Camp Staff would like to extend to you, our warmest wishes and deep appreciation for your generous contribution.

You have made it possible for Wilderness Camp for Deaf Children Inc. to provide a camping experience to underprivileged, deaf children.

There are few experiences in the world that equal the joy in the faces of deaf children when they get off the bus and look around the camp.  Volunteer Lions that come to help out at camp become caught up in the excitement of the children as they watch them sign to each other, some at rocket speed.  The children come to us from nearly every economic background with various levels of ability to communicate using American Sign Language (ASL).

Be proud in the knowledge that you have made a difference.  You have made the world a better place for those less fortunate than yourselves.  Again, on behalf of the children who will benefit from your gift my sincere thanks.  Congratulations, the members of your club are truly living our Lions Motto, We Serve.

Yours in Lionism,
Diana Halsey

Who Was That Masked Man?
The Citrus Heights Lions were excited when a visitor, Lion Dan Shutters, from the East Hanover Lions Club in Pennsylvania showed up at one of their club meetings.  Lion Dan appeared to be a very friendly and humorous man.  It was delightful to have him there.  But what the Citrus Heights members learned about this distant traveler was that he was also VERY SNEAKY.  Lion Eileen from the Hanover Lions Club removed his mask in the following letter that she sent to the club.

From the East Hanover Lions Club

Dear Fellow Lions,

Greetings from the East Hanover Lions Club in Grantville, Pennsylvania!  You are probably wondering why we are writing your club, please let me explain.

Have you wondered what happened to your gavel?  Well, in January of this year our Tail Twister Lion Dan Shutters attended your club's meeting, and it seems Lion Shutters thought it would be nice to bring it back to our club to prove his attendance at the Citrus Heights Lions Club meeting.  He also thought it could be a good bargaining tool for possibly some California oranges.

It never ceases to amaze one what Lions Club members do to foster carmaraderie among other clubs and their members.  We've known clubs to lose their banners, bells, all done in fun and the building of friendships.

Should any of your members be in this area we extend a hearty welcome to attend our club's meeting.  Our dinner meetings are held the 4th Tuesday.  For more specific information relative to time and location please call me if in the area.  As you are probably aware, we are in the immediate area of the sweetest town, Chocolate Town USA, Hershey PA and would be delighted to share some of this sweetness with you.  Possibly you could take something from our club back to your club and thus bargain for some chocolate candy in exchange.

Our club would be interested in hearing about your club, some of the activities, fundraisers, etc your club participates in throughout the year.

In Lionism and friendship,

Eileen F. Longreen, Secretary
East Hanover Lions Club

PS.  At our February 28th dinner meeting Lion Shutters led the group in the singing of your song, "Lions Roar With Pride".

From The Sacramento Crisis Nurseries

Dear Members,

The Crisis Nurseries mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing support to families during crisis situations.  Over 2,900 children and 2,300 families have been served by the Crisis Nurseries since the South Nursery opened in 1996.  This year the Sacramento Crisis Nursery program is celebrating its 10th Anniversary of providing a safe shelter for babies and young children.

On behalf of the Sacramento Crisis Nurseries and the children we serve, thank you for your donation through the Folsom City Lioness Lions Club baby shower.  View pictures. Through your efforts of dedicated individuals, local businesses, community-based organizations, private foundations and other donors, we are able to protect children and provide support services to strengthen families.

Your donation is appreciated.  Thank you for your support and for caring about the children and families in our community by helping us to continue providing our services.

Sincerely,

Sue Bonk
Director

Dear Lions,

Thank you so much for contributing to the third annual Citrus Heights Relay For Life.  Your support is extremely appreciated.  Our team was very successful this year due to the dedication and contributions from organizations like yours.  With your help our team contributed over $5,000 to the Relay For Life.  All together our community raised over $184,000 for the American Cancer Society.  With the combination of dedication, hard work, and support we as a community are making generous strides towards the cure for cancer.  Hope and determination are two very powerful things that will continue to lead us in the right direction.

We really appreciate your contribution. Fundraisers and events such as this would not be possible without community involvement.  We look forward to your support in years to come.  Thanks again for supporting this great cause.

Sincerely,

Richard Hale

Thank you for inviting us to participate in the Lions club event yesterday.  I appreciate and respect all the wonderful things your organization does for our community.  I hope the carnival and health fair were successful.
